Ok. I’m just gonna go ahead and say it. I am a huge fan girl when it comes to Miranda Kerr! She is adorable and is doing amazing things right now in the health and wellness space. She is basically Gweneth Paltrow’s BFF when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle inside and out! Ahh ok- the gushy part is over.
One of my many guilty pleasures lately is looking up celebrity diets. I mean, come on. They look amazing and are aliens that never age! We need to know their secrets too!
I recently came across Miranda Kerr’s skincare line called Kora Organics which is jam packed with products that have amazing ingredients. It was awesome to learn about her daily routine for external maintenance but I still wanted to know more. What does this angel eat on the day to day to stay trim and keep that amazing glow?
A lot of what I found was pretty basic.
Some salmon and avocado toast there.
An apple for a snack.
Nothing I haven’t seen before. But then I found the recipe to her secret morning smoothie…
The ingredient list alone totally blew me away! Before I slip back into fan girl mode, I’m gonna share with you the exact recipe I found, why it’s the ultimate superfood smoothie, and my personal results after trying it out every morning for 7 days.
Miranda Kerr’s Secret Superfood Smoothie Recipe:
Water from a young fresh coconut (or half a glass of coconut water)
1/2 a glass goat’s or almond milk
1 tbs acai powder
1 tbs goji berries
1 tbs spirulina
1 tbs raw cacao powder
1 tbs maca powder
1 tbs chia seeds
1 tbs raw vegan protein powder
1 tbs coconut oil
Method: Pour all of these lovely ingredients in a blender and hit it.
*Personal note: If you are watching your calories – cut out the almond milk on this one*
Why This Smoothie Packs A Punch
It’s all in the ingredients baby!!! Each one of these superfoods is packed with amazing health benefits. Let’s break it down and see what exactly we are getting in each glass:
Acai powder is made from acai berries which are a Brazilian super fruit.
First and foremost: acai berries are LOADED with antioxidants.
“Antioxidants are important because they neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals throughout the body.
If free radicals are not neutralized by antioxidants, they can damage cells and lead to a number of diseases, including diabetes, cancer and heart disease.
Acai berries have an incredibly high amount of antioxidants, edging out other antioxidant-rich fruits like blueberries and cranberries”
Acai berries have also been proven to improve brain function, improve cholesterol levels, boost brain function, and have anti-cancer super powers.
Even though goji berries seem to be a trendy superfood in the U.S., they’ve been around for a long long time.
“Goji berries have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. Some legends report that goji berries were eaten by monks in the Himalayan Mountains thousands of years ago and steeped in hot water to help aid meditation and obtain greater health, vitality, longevity, energy and stamina.”
Goji berries are low in calories, fat-free, and are a great source of fiber. They also have the ability to help you fight disease, effectively manage your weight and experience better digestion.
Goji berries are also loaded with antioxidants, have been proven to promote healthy skin and eye health.
Spirulina is a blue-green algae jam-packed with nutritional benefits. Here are some of it’s super powers:
- Detoxes heavy metals in the body
- Regulates bacteria in the gut
- Helps prevent cancer
- Lowers blood pressure
- Improves cholesterol
- Boosts energy
- Speeds up weight loss
Even though spirulina has a heavy seaweed scent, it’s not a superfood to skip. Trust me, it blends well in smoothies so you don’t have to fear any fishy aftertaste.
Cacao powder is made from cacao beans and is best if consumed raw. Normal cacao powder and chocolate have been chemically processed which destroys up to 90% of the original antioxidants found in raw cacao powder.
Besides being another antioxidant powerhouse, raw cacao powder also has:
- The highest plant-based source of iron
- Loads of Magnesium to support a healthy heart & brain
- More Calcium than cow’s milk
- A natural mood booster & anti-depressant
Maca powder is made from Maca which is a root vegetable. Maca powder is extremely high in antioxidants and specific nutrients such as vitamin C, iron, and copper. Maca is another special superfood that has been used medicinally for over thousands of years.
It has been proven to improve sexual health and libido, boost energy, balance hormone levels, and even improve mood and memory.
Chia seeds are small black seeds that come from a plant called Salvia Hispanica. This plant grows naturally in South America. Chia seeds were another important ancient superfood for the Aztecs and Mayans.
Chia seeds are also rich in antioxidants but unlike the others, they are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help boost HDL cholesterol (AKA: the “good” cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke). They area also a great source of fiber, iron, and calcium.
Results From My 7 Day Experiment
Even though on the 7th day I didn’t wake up 2 feet taller, or on the cover of vogue, I still experienced some pretty amazing changes.
My usual routine definitely includes a smoothie first thing in the morning, but I never tried a smoothie like this that was so damn nutrient rich!
When all was said and done after my first week, this is what I noticed:
- My skin looked AH-MA-ZINGGG. I have extremely acne prone skin but didn’t have any blemishes or breakouts on my last day of the trial.
- I felt good. My mood was super positive and my creative energy came back as well!
- I lost 2 lbs! Granted I was eating pretty healthy overall during this week but I didn’t have crazy cravings throughout the day! Felt completely satisfied.
Overall I highly recommend anyone curious to try out this superfood smoothie. For me it was a perfect and quick go-to breakfast that will continue to stay on my menu for a long long time.
