My name is Emily Asher and I am a 20-something chickadee that currently lives in NYC.
In my free time I like to enjoy exploring the endless new hangout spots in New York City, going to stand-up comedy shows, breathing in live music, and watching all the foodie shows I possibly can on Netflix.
My obsessions are:
-creating new and healthy recipes on the daily
-endlessly researching + testing out new self care rituals
-traveling across the globe (Thailand is still my ultimate favorite corner of the earth)
-replenishing my body with yoga, meditation, and strength training
Oh & I also have a plump little cat named Taquito that I love infinitely.
SELF HATE TO SELF LOVE
I wasn’t always obsessed with holistic nutrition and actively making healthy lifestyle changes. I had a lot of rough times in my early 20’s. I experienced weight gain, horrid acne breakouts, and chronic depression.
I’d constantly wear baggy clothes and hide in hoodies during the summer time. I was a binge-drinker and my unhappiness and self-confidence just went down the drain fast. For the longest time I couldn’t break out of that depressed cycle. I would try all kinds of fad diets and when real results weren’t happening – I’d burn out and order some papa johns. My low self esteem held me back from pursuing healthy relationships, advancements in my career, and simply connecting to who I was really was and what I wanted to do with my life. I was so lost.
It wasn’t until I started researching plant-based nutrition that I had my first A-HA moment. I immediately fell in love and started myself on a flexitarian / plant-based meal plan. In just 2 weeks I lost a few pounds, my face started clearing up, and my natural happiness started coming back. The rest is history.
MY NUTRITIONAL FOUNDATION
I am a big believer in the Whole Foods, Plant-Based Diet (naturally low in fat + refined carbohydrates). My nutritional foundation is based on the belief that a Whole Foods – Ninety-Plus Percent (90+%) plant based diet is the optimal diet for overall health and well-being.
What the heck is a Whole Foods 90+% Plant Based Diet ?!?! You may be wondering…
This diet isn’t necessarily vegetarian or vegan. Put very simply, it is a diet that prioritizes eating whole or unprocessed plant foods; minimizes meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs; and eliminates highly processed foods.
(The word ‘Flexitarian’ may come to mind)
Ultimately while following this diet you eat a whole foods, ninety-plus percent (90+%) diet, which means keeping animal foods to 10% or less of your calories.
More times than not I eat 100% plant-based however I enjoy the flexibility involved in this way of eating and being able to offer it to my clients.
