How To Choose A Fish Oil Supplement
I’ve always read brief articles here and there that fish oil is good for you. But I was never really one for supplements. My only go at it resulted in about $30 worth of supplements from Whole Foods that collected dust on a bookshelf.
Recently my health hasn’t been at 100%, so I sought out help from my aunt who is amazing and truly has a gift for health and wellness. She ran a bio feedback scan on me and found quite a few things that were causing my symptoms.
One of her top recommendations to start feeling better was to take a fish oil supplement daily. Twice a day to be exact (one in the morning / one in the evening).

What is Fish Oil?
When it comes down to it, fish oil supplements are simply made of oil that is plucked from the tissues of oily fish. Pretty simple right? So why all the fuss? When studied a bit closer fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids—>

Lots of big words, I know. Basically these omega-3 fatty acids are loaded with health benefits.
So much so that the World Health Organization recommends eating 1-2 portions of fish per week to make sure these fatty acids are a staple in your weekly diet.
Fish oil typically comes from tuna, anchovies and mackerel. However supplements can also contain oil produced from a fish’s liver (ex: cod liver oil)

So you’re convinced – fish oil is amazing and if you take it you will live forever & ever- but what kind of fish oil is the best?
When I started going through the motions of buying a fish oil supplement, I was completely overwhelmed. There are a million choices! How do I know if what I’m buying is good or just a load of sugar pills?
This is the difficult part – research every detail of the brand you’re looking at if you are thinking of buying a bottle.
If you want a good quality fish oil supplement, then look for companies that have found their source in the arctic ocean.
There are a lot of fish oil supplements that forge their product from the pacific ocean.
I don’t know if you remember that whole nuclear disaster in Fukushima, but the pacific ocean is a general no-no when looking for a healthy supplement void of pollutants. Always research the ingredients and research where their fish is coming from.
Which Brand Has the Healthiest Ingredients?
So with all this research done, finding a brand is easy right? False, my friend.
I found so many fish oil brands that literally had Arctic Ocean in their brand name-
BUT when I did research on where they were getting their fish, they still were getting it from the pacific!!
The brand I finally found that won me over was Nordic Naturals.
Their Arctic Cod Liver Oil supplements fit all of my requirements (thank gosh, it took me awhile to hunt them down haha!)
